REVOLVE Cowichan held their last gathering of the season in Duncan’s Centennial Park on Sunday. The gathering, which featured homemade pizza – fresh from the park’s wood-fired cob oven – included a great discussion about the upcoming general local election. A number of new and incumbent candidates were in attendance to listen.
REVOLVE Cowichan began in May 2023 as a result of many conversations with people in the Cowichan Valley who have experienced hate and discrimination for their sexual and gender identity and who have felt unsafe at times due to rising societal tensions. In doing this REVOLVE took a negative and problematic situation and transformed it into something positive and creative for our community.
Groups like REVOLVE Cowichan are doing the important work of building community and creating safe spaces for people to learn, participate and contribute. They are a good example of the local assets and talent that are working to make the Cowichan Valley the great place that it is and will continue to be. Fortunately for us, they aren’t the only ones.
Through this local election we would like to bring more attention and awareness to those groups who help make our community better.
